Dr.. Zamkahal from Istanbul to the OECD: “We appeal to
Donor countries in the OECD
To protect and finance the Lebanese private sector
Because without him, the history and roots of Lebanon will collapse.”
The President of the International Federation of Lebanese Businessmen and Women MIDEL, Dr. Fouad Zamakhel, participated in the meeting of the Business Advisory Board of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) in the Middle East and North Africa region in Istanbul – Turkey, and officially appointed him and the International Federation of Lebanese Businessmen MIDEL as a member of the Board of Directors in this international council. The title of this international meeting was “Transitioning from recovery to building economic resilience: private sector strategies”.
Dr. Fouad Zamakhel chaired the special session entitled “The Idea Factory, Employment Opportunities and Entrepreneurship”. Dr. stressed. In his speech, Zamkahel emphasized that “there is no doubt that stimulating job opportunities and promoting entrepreneurship in the region plays a fundamental role in supporting growth and development of the private sector, while mitigating the effects of crises on labor markets in the region.”
Dr. Zamkahel added that, “It is possible that the effects of the war in Ukraine will exacerbate the negative trends left by the Corona pandemic (Covid-19), which affected all the economies of the Middle East and North Africa region, causing youth unemployment in the region to reach over 27 % in 2020 and up to 47 % for young women.
In this context, Dr. stressed. Zamkahel stressed that “the location and responsibility of economic clusters should create synergy to provide new job opportunities and contribute to strengthening the growth of the region’s economies,” pointing out “the importance of promoting entrepreneurship while facing sanctions that challenge the labor market in the region.”
Dr. spoke. Zamkahel detailed the unique socio-economic crisis that is going through in Lebanon, stressing that “how the Lebanese lost 90% of their savings, deposits and even their income, and their percentage of living, and how they face internal inflation behind the deterioration of the national currency, and the dispersal of exchange rates on the black market, and how they face At the same time, international inflation, due to the rise in oil and gas prices and all derivatives of natural resources.
Dr. confirmed. Zamkahel said, “Lebanon cannot face this ordeal alone, and he appealed to the OECD countries to support the Lebanese private sector, especially small, medium and even very small companies – Company Micro , because entrepreneurs are the main engine for re-growth.”
Dr. sealed. Zamkahel said: “We do not have confidence in the tattered public sector and corrupt politicians, but we have great confidence in our youth and entrepreneurship, and in the Lebanese expatriates who form the backbone of our country and economy
