During a celebration held at Central Elissar – Matn on Friday, August 2, 2024, under the patronage and in the presence of His Excellency the Minister of Communications, Engineer Johnny Al-Qurm, GDS announced the launch of a new Fiber To The Home – FTTH network in the Central Matn region.
The celebration was attended by the Minister of Communications, Engineer Johnny Al-Qurm, the representative of Matn, Razi Al-Hajj, and the Secretary of the Ogero Authority, Mr. Haitham Kebbi, in addition to a crowd of invitees that included the mayors of Mazraat Yachouh and Qornet Shehwan, representatives of the mayors of Matn, and the general directors of the Ministry of Communications, Mr. Naji Andrews and Mr. Basil Al-Ayoubi, in addition to businessmen, journalists, and administrative cadres from the Ministry of Communications, the Ogero Authority, and the Holcom Group.
On this occasion, Ms. Rana Zakhour, Executive Director of the Globalcom Group, which includes GDS among its companies, gave a welcome speech in which she stressed: “The private sector works in full partnership with the public sector, and that the presence of the state and the Ogero Authority in a sound position is necessary for companies transmitting information and services.” Private Internet to enable it to provide its services to its customers with the highest possible quality standards.” She added, “GDS is fully committed to the laws, and in this context it places its highly qualified human cadres and competencies to meet the needs of the market. For his part, the sponsor of the celebration, the Minister of Communications, Engineer Johnny Al-Qurm, gave a speech in which he pointed out the importance of this event, saying: “We meet today to activate the new fiber optic network in the Middle Matn region, which was established by GDS in partnership with the Ministry of Communications and the Ogero Authority, with the aim of strengthening the digital infrastructure.” And developing Internet services in the region.” He added: “Thanks to the efforts of GDS and the ministerial work team, we will secure the fiber optic network for a large segment of citizens.” He stressed that “this project would not have been possible without the fruitful cooperation between the public and private sectors.” He then thanked GDS for providing the capabilities to ensure the provision of fast and high-quality Internet services, noting that “this service will contribute to developing businesses, increasing their efficiency, and creating new job opportunities for young people, which will enhance innovation and economic growth.” He finally announced, “This achievement is only the beginning, and we will continue our efforts to expand fiber optic network services to other regions in Lebanon.”
The opening of this new network by GDS, which covers the entire central Matn region, comes within the framework of expanding its services in the Matn District. It comes as a result of close cooperation between the private and public sectors, as the network was established in accordance with applicable Lebanese laws and decrees, which regulate the work of the private sector for high-speed Internet.
This new network will cover about 1,200 residential and commercial buildings, which will provide fast and reliable service to more than 6,000 users in the central Matn region, specifically in the towns of Al-Yassar, Mazraat Yachouh, Qornet Chehwan, Ain Aar, Beit Al-Kakko, Habous, Al-Mtayleb, and Dik Al-Mahdi. In this new network, the company relies on Fiber to the Home (FTTH) technology, which allows providing reliable, high-speed Internet service of up to 300 megabits per second. It should be noted that in recent years, GDS has completed the preparation of fiber optic networks in many Lebanese regions, including Hazmieh, Achrafieh, and Hamra.
